Hello fellow BSA-ers! Gossip Girl here, your one and only source for the juicy events happening in Baltimore School for the Arts!
These first couple of months have been raving with excitement, and I have all of the deets you need. Believe me, you wouldn’t want to be caught dead not knowing the inside scoop!
First up, the fabulous college fair. It was an artful-academic extravaganza, with some top notch universities setting up and giving their best effort to woo the best and brightest.
Students were seen navigating through mazes of booths, collecting brochures, and getting to know the representatives that just might shape their future! Who knew choosing a college could be so much like speed dating? Swipe right for Julliard anyone?
Next on the agenda, the Senior Inauguration. This marked the official start of the final year for our soon-to-be-graduates. The ceremony was filled with speeches from a couple of staff members and senior dancer London Connolly.
Let me tell you, that speech was so heartfelt, even the toughest critics would need a moment to compose themselves! It’s like a sneak peek to graduation, but with less tears and more excitement. And besides, who would waste an opportunity to dress up and pretend to already be ruling the world?
Let’s add a splash of international culture to the list with Taiwanese dancers performing their cultural dances on our very ballroom stage! Their beautiful costumes ranging from elegant and flowy goldfish to fierce dragons were to die for!
Their graceful movements flowing with the music brought a taste of Taiwan to the heart of Mount Vernon. It was a delightful showcase that left everyone in awe and maybe a bit inspired to pick up a new move or two!
That’s not where the culture ends! Finally we had our annual Hispanic Heritage Month Showcase, hosted by the Latin@ Student Union! With the theme of “Coming Home”, it was definitely the talk of the town. A beautiful dance, performed by Senior dancer Valentina Flores-Briggs, was so fire, the fire department almost showed up!
Musical performances from solos, to duets, and a jazz band with a surprise performance from our very own Spanish teacher Señora Fleck was moving for us all. I mean, talk about hitting notes! All of the films, poems, dances, and songs really helped our student body to truly get a sense of what our beloved Hispanic and Latin@ students called “home”, and celebrate them in the process!
Embracing culture is finding the perfect accessory: it completes the outfit and makes you stand out. Without it, life would be just too plain!
That’s all for now BSA-ers! Keep slaying and stay fabulous! Until next time… Oh, and who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell, the only one.
XOXO,
